Green Beans

In my quest to find vegetables that will actually stay in Henry's mouth and make it all the way to his belly, instead of on the floor and therefore Harper's belly, I opened a can of green beans on Tuesday. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that some vegetable-adverse kids like canned vegetables. We tend not to eat them very often, but I always have some in the pantry in case of, you know, natural disasters. Or zombies.

So I opened a can and put a few on his plate. After eyeing them suspiciously and then trying one and spitting it out, I thought, "Well, no surprise there." Then something magical happened. He tried another one. And kept it in his mouth! And swallowed it! And it went all the way down to his belly! And another. And another. Until the five beans I had put on his plate where gone. Then he asked for more.

So I gave him some more. And he scarfed them down. And asked for more. After eating almost half a can of beans, I cut him off. He was not happy.

The next day, after daycare (or 'school' as we like to call it), we opened the fridge to find an afternoon snack. Henry spotted the container that held the remaining green beans and exclaimed, "Beans!", so we busted out the beans and Henry scarfed those down too. All of them. The other half a can. And he was very disappointed when I showed him they were all gone.

And in case you're wondering how I masterfully prepared this delicacy, here's the recipe: Open the can, put the beans directly on a plate or in a bowl. Eat them.

Guess I'm going to have to buy more beans.
